DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL ABUSE

Domestic Violence and sexual abuse crimes are of particular concern to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecution attorneys rely on traditional and innovative prosecution techniques to address these matters and insure that perpetrators are held accountable. The Prosecutor’s Victim Services Coordinator and other staff members are also an integral part of this effort.

As a result, domestic violence and sexual abuse offenders are convicted and brought to justice on a routine basis.

The Prosecutor’s Office also partners with Domestic and Sexual Abuse Services (DASAS) to combat domestic and sexual violence in Southwest Michigan. This teamwork includes the presence of a DASAS worker in the Prosecutor’s Office several days a week.

Together, the Prosecutor’s Office and DASAS work to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence in clarifying their options, accessing community services, and providing a safe place for survivors and their families. Services include:

  • Client centered advocacy for both residential and non-residential DASAS clients.
  • Prevention education and outreach.
  • 24-hour domestic violence and sexual assault Help Line.
  • Sexual assault program – for survivors of all forms of sexual violence, in any stage of life, and their non-offending family members.
  • Domestic violence program – for survivors of all forms of partner, dating, and intimate violence: emotional, physical, sexual, economic, and their families.
  • Assistance in obtaining Personal Protection Orders.
The Prosecutor’s Office and DASAS can assist you through the legal process. Support groups and supportive counseling services are also available
